The original design featured two ponds. But the federal Works Progress Administration eliminated these ponds during the 1930s as part of a flood control program. Nonetheless, Olmsted designed the Lily Pond, a rectangular cement pool next to the main “upper loop” of the park. Today, the park’s Lily Pond is a popular attraction for locals and visitors alike.
