First Thing First

The first thing that our technicians will do upon arriving at your house is hook up to your water spigot (not if you are on a well). Hooking up to water ensures that we will not run out mid-roof wash. Also, if you are home the lead technician on the job will speak with you about our roof cleaning process, and make sure all of your windows are shut and locked. We then inspect the roof for any damage or problem areas.

Preparing the Roof

The first step to the roof cleaning process is the removal of growth from the surface of the roof. This may be asphalt shingle, metal, tile, or TPO style roofing.

The technicians will brush off the moss and lichen from your roof. Periodically the technicians will use a leaf blower to blow off the loose moss and growth from the roof. This step allows for a cleaner starting point when the roof cleaning detergent is applied.

Once the technicians have removed the growth for your roof, they will clean out all the gutters of debris and flush them. This will allow for the detergent to flow off the roof without becoming backed up in the gutters. With our process we want all run-off to flow from the roof to the gutter downspouts. Our technicians will also bag all of the downspouts to collect the run-off.

Now that the growth has been removed from your roof and gutters, the technicians can begin to unreel their hoses and start the detergent application.

Applying the Roof Detergent

Before the technicians apply the detergent they will pre-wet all the plants and landscaping around your house. This is a precautionary measure because the detergent for the roof cleaning is an algaecide, so spraying them with water will dilute any over-spray and protect them from harm.

While one technician sprays the roof cleaning detergent the other will continue to water any plants. The technician that is rinsing will also be checking the bags on the downspouts, switching them for new ones if needed.

The roof detergent will be applied in at least two coats, or until the desired result.

Depending on the size of the roof, and the weather conditions at the time of the roof wash this part of the process can take a couple of hours.

Finishing Up

When the roof cleaning detergent is finished being applied the technicians will do a final rinse of any plants and retrieve the bags with the detergent run-off. Our technicians will take all the bags with them to dispose of safely. The technicians will also rinse off your windows to avoid soap spots if any over spray hits them.

It is important to note that some roofs will have small white spots on them after the cleaning process. This is completely normal! The little white spots left on the shingles is dead moss or lichen that will fall off over time.
